Lazard Ltd Appoints Jacobs as Chief Executive

Last November 2009, Lazard announced the appointment of Kenneth Jacobs as the chairman and chief executive officer of the firm, selecting a longtime executive at the investment consultancy business to succeed the duties of the late Bruce Wasserstein, the former CEO and chairman of Lazard.

According to the firm’s board, Jacobs was chosen unanimously to take on the position of Wasserstein, who pass away in October at 61 after he was admitted to a hospital due to an irregular heartbeat.

Kenneth Jacobs, who is now 51, was employed at Lazard in 1988 and now the North American Lazard CEO, a position that he assumed back in 2002. Prior to being chief executive, he started out as a deputy chairman in that same year (1988) and became a partner in 1991.

When he was appointed chairman and CEO last year, he began his duties effective immediately.

An interim CEO following the death of Wasserstein, Steven Golub, will resume his position as the firm’s vice chairman and chairman of its financial consultancy department. Golub, who lost the position to Kenneth Jacobs, has been working for Lazard since 1984 and has had many senior leadership titles such as chief financial officer.

Lazard, which started in 1848, is firm that specializes in mergers and acquisition consultancies and other fields involving corporate strategy and asset administration.
