Mobile broadband is in high demand even when people are moving around. T-Mobile has responded to this demand by tying up with Virgin Trains to provide mobile broadband access on Virgin’s West Coast Main Line, through WiFi hotspots.

The West Coast Main Line runs between Scotland and London, through the West Midlands and the North West, and it carries over 22 million passengers each year. Virgin plans to start with its 52 Pendolino Trains and then by the middle of summer the service will also be extended to the 21 Super Voyager trains.

First Class passengers and T-Mobile pay monthly Customers who are on unlimited WiFi access will be able to access the new service free of cost. Others can buy Hotspot passes by using their WiFi enabled device to hook on to the network (click for info on free laptop with mobile broadband).

Richard Warmsley, Head of Internet and Entertainment at T-Mobile, commented on the new service, saying that it is a unique opportunity for the company to provide Internet access to customers wherever they are. The service is an added benefit to the company’s existing pay monthly Mobile Broadband customers, and others can also use the service without restrictions regarding which mobile operator they are subscribed to, he said.

Nomad Digital is working with T-Mobile once again on this project. It is a leading company providing data communications services to the transport sector. The two companies, Nomad Digital and T-Mobile, have been pioneering the installation of innovative data services, including the first ever internet service on a train, offered on the London - Brighton route.
