Counterfeit Poker Cards

In online poker, a good hand that appears to be ahead, can easily be crushed when new cards hit the board at the casino. What looks to be the winner can instantly turn into the second-best and losing hand. In some situations, this unhappy circumstance is called a “counterfeited hand.”

When can your hand be counterfeited? Most likely when you are holding a small pocket pair or have made one with the board. Often there is another pair on the board, so you have two pair and look to be the winner. But on the river, the board pairs another card, so that there are two pairs out there, both higher than the pair made by both or one of your pockets. Now your hand is counterfeited.

You can’t really “play the board” - meaning that you are counting on the visible cards to make you a winner, unless you are holding an Ace. Anyone else holding an Ace or any card higher than your cards could be the winner when there are two pairs out there. Sometimes it’s a split with the two pairs along with a high card on the board being the best hand. Anyone who went to the river will get a percentage of the pot. In online poker, small pairs can be counterfeited if the boards turns up two pairs that beat your small matching cards.
